What This Tool Is Built For

The tool offers the ability to provide a real time transformation from regular text into; 1) Four formats (ways) to transform into text (different appearance). Each format produces a unique result based on what option selected by the user.

The tool can be used for;

  • A social media format that will attract attention by providing reverse or flipped text.
  • A Visual design mock-up or branding idea where mirror style (mirror image) will produce an effect.
  • An upside-down format that can be used for; puzzles, games and/or creative purposes.
  • A Text field testing format in which a developer may test their input of a reverse string.
  • A Fun/recreational use for reversing names, phrases and/or messages.

How the Tool Works

You input your text in the box, then the tool reads it and processes the output right away. Choose one of the first four modes from the first dropdown, and for the Mirror and Flip modes there will be a second dropdown that includes extra options.

The modes are listed below with explanations:

  • Reverse: reverses every character to make the complete string come to an end.
  • Reverse Words: retains every word so that the order of the words changes from how it was originally written.
  • Mirror: provides the combination of the text and the text in reverse. You can select from Simple Mirror (text | text reversed) and Interleaved (characters in combination with the opposite).
  • Flip: replaces each of the letters with the upside-down version of the same letters (Unicode format). You can select from Flip Only and Flip and Reverse (reverse and then flip).

Once the output appears on the page, you are provided additional details about what was produced from the input:

  • Original number of characters
  • Character count of the final output
  • Total number of words

You can then also use a single click to copy the output to your clipboard or save the output as a PNG image to your device.

Limitations and Disclaimer

This tool is designed simply but there are a number of things it does not do:

  • Incomplete flip coverage: The flip map will only show the basic Latin alphabet a-z, A-Z and 0-9 as well as some punctuation marks. Emojis, accented characters and other scripts besides Latin will be passed through without any changes.
  • Interleaving mirror edges edge cases: If there are different numbers of characters in the string due to a different number of spaces or line breaks at the end of the character pairs, some pairs will not line up correctly.
  • This tool does not translate or decode: This tool does nothing but re-arranging the characters and mapping them to each other (this can be accomplished in many languages). It does not translate between different languages, decode hidden messages, or encrypt anything.

Built to be fast and easy to use, this tool uses your text, allows you to choose a mode, then gives you your results within less than a second. Whether you are using it for fun or for a live use case, it completes the task without any additional steps. Simply copy whatever you need and go on about your day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a reverse text generator?

An online interface for reversing text with multiple modes. An example of the modes that you can use for reversing your text include; reversing the sequence of letters in the text, mirroring and flipping the letter sequence, letter mirroring and replacing each letter with an upside or mirror image using unicode characters.

How do I reverse text online for free?

To use the online text reversing tool, type/paste your text into the input area of the tool and select the Reverse option from the list of available options. The text will generate and can be copied or used wherever you want - no hassle (no charge or sign in required).

What is the difference between reverse text and mirror text?

Reversing text takes the letters in the word and changes the order in which they appear, For example, reversing "Hello" = "olleH"; using the mirror text function will produce both "Hello" and "olleH" - although visually distinct, they are essentially the same words, just in different positions.

Can I flip text upside down with this tool?

Yes, mirror text is produced when you have replaced the original letter with an upside-down character created using the unicode alphabet. For example "h" = "ɥ" and "e" = "ǝ". The tool performs best when processing text written in the English alphabet.

What does the Reverse Words mode do exactly?

Yes, the tool works by leaving each word as originally written but reversing the position of each word, so that "I love this tool" would reverse the position of each of those words, producing "tool this love I". This is useful if you are trying to get a word scramble where the order of the words has been randomized without scrambling the words themselves.

Does this tool work on mobile phones?

Yes. The tool is browser based and works on any device, including phones and tablets. No need to download an app to use it.

Can I save the reversed text as an image?

When you press Save the result area will be taken and downloaded as a PNG file; this is often used for sharing results visually on social media or via text message.

Is this tool the same as a Google reverse text generator?

Currently Google has no built-in reverse text generator but if you were to do a search on Google for 'reverse text generator' you would find third party programs like this one that are tutorial-based that will do this entirely in your browser with no connection to Google search, Google translate, or any other external service.

How is Flip & Reverse different from Flip Only?

The first thing Flip Only does is take the characters and put them upside down, in the order that they originally were. The first thing Flip and Reverse does is take the characters and reverse the order they are in, then map the characters back to their original positions using the flip table. So when you use "Flip and Reverse", it appears that both were done at once —your text will look both upside-down and backward.
